19 Jun. 2025 Amina Khote Home Essentials Newcomer Support (HENS) Jun. 19, 2025 12:30 p.m. Amina founded Home Essentials Newcomer Support (HENS) in 2018 to address the urgent need to fill a critical gap in settlement system for urgent household essentials among newcomer families arriving in Toronto with little to no belongings, often fleeing war or crisis. With extensive experience in community engagement, project management, and newcomer support, she has led impactful initiatives such as food distribution partnerships to address food insecurity issues, multilingual positive parenting workshops for newcomer families to better integrate into their new community, and many other culturally responsive outreach programs. Amina’s work is guided by her unwavering passion for fostering dignity, stability, and equitable access to resources for vulnerable communities. In recognition of the profound impact of her work, she was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in March 2025—a national honor celebrating her service to the community.
