Victor Lal, a student at Western University, came and talked to us today (2017-1012) about his Ride for Syrian Refugees – see canadiansforsyria.org. He spent part of his summer raising $30,000 for a Syrian family which is presently residing in Jordan and expected to arrive in Canada later this year. Victor rode his bike from Toronto to St. John’s, Newfoundland, over 2,500 kilometres. He had some interesting stories to tell about his ride, including the generosity of people he met along the way. Last year, Toronto East Rotary Club supported a number of initiatives related to the Syrian refugee crisis and was pleased to support Victor in his fundraising efforts with a cheque for $1,000. Thanks to Victor for his demonstration of “Service above Self”.
