Remembrance Day

Sir Johnathon (Jack) Embrey was born in East York. He enlisted in the Army in March, 1942 and was assigned to the Second Canadian Armoured Brigade. In December 1942, just three weeks after getting married, Jack boarded the Queen Elizabeth I, landing in Scotland. Jack spent 3 long years in England on Salisbury Plain before the Canadians landed at Juno Beach in June, 1944. As the Allies advanced across Europe, Jack served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The War in Europe ended on May 8, 1945 but Jack did not get back home to Canada until December, 1946. In 2014, Jack was honoured by the government of France with a knighthood of the Legion of Honour.

Jack has been a member of Toronto East Rotary Club since 1978 and served as president of the club
