TERC has provided a big boost to local community service projects with year end funding of over $33,000.
 

School Workshop Funding

Organization : White Ribbon Campaign

WRC engages men and boys in the prevention of violence against women and a major strategy in that effort is education and awareness with youth. In 2009 WRC reached 5,000 students and 400 teachers in the GTA. The funding will support 12 school workshops during the 2011 school year.

Floor Hockey Equipment

Organization : Eastview Community Centre

Young people around the Danforth and Donlands community have few options for recreation other then ‘hanging out” especially within the Muslim community. The community is looking to provide positive, safe activities for youth to participate. This funding will go towards purchasing floor hockey equipment. There are approximately 60 young people aged 12 to 18 involved in regular games supervised by the Eastview Community Center.

The Edwin Lounge Program

Organization : Woodgreen Community Centre

“The Lounge” is their first contact program for homeless and socially isolated individuals in East Toronto. The goal of the Lounge is to provide low barrier programs that will help people move off the streets permanently. The lounge is not a shelter – they provide day programs for people who are either living in shelters, living “rough”, or who are precariously housed. The funding will go towards their lunch program which currently provides lunches to 50 homeless individuals a day and to their Arts program providing an outlet for expressing themselves.

Holiday Angel Program

Organization : New Circles

New Circles clients are low income families from the Flemmington Park Area. The funding provides gifts, groceries, and basic necessities as a holiday gift for approximately 5 families.

300 Fingerprint Identification Kits

Canadian Missing Awareness and Prevention Program

This program provides kits to help identify children in order to provide a safe way to return then to their families

Summer Program in St. James Town

Organization : Art City

Art City will run in July and August 2011 allowing youth to participate in  art activities including the creation of a mural

Belize Orphanage

Organization : Belize Orphanage

The funding will go to aid a children’s orphanage in Belize. The orphanage provides meals, and accommodation for many unfortunate children in Belize.

Remembrance Day Donation

Organization : Sunnybrook Hospital Veterans Comfort Fund

Each year a Remembrance Day ceremony is conducted for the veterans of the Canadian Forces who are receiving care at Sunnybrook hospital. Also, each year the club hosts veterans from the hospital at the club’s Remembrance Day lunch. The funds will go to helping with the costs of the events.

Basketball Program

Organization : Bethany Church

The funding will go towards the purchase of equipment and team sweaters for a youth basketball program being run at Bethany Church.

Soccer Programs

Organization : East York Soccer Club

East York Soccer club is a community organization that organizes a soccer program for children aged 5 though to 16. There are over 1000 children in the various age groups and the funds will go towards the purchase of uniforms and equipment.

Children’s Programs

Organization : Broadview Community Youth Group

The funds provide affordable, entertaining, and educational programs for youth aged 5-12 in East Toronto including subsidies to those families who need them, allowing kids form a wide variety of backgrounds to have fun together.

Casseroles

Organization : Good Sheppard Refuge

For a number of years the member s of TERC have prepared Sheppard’s Pie  casseroles which are donated to the Good Sheppard Refuge located at Queen and Parliament in Toronto. The Refuge offers food, shelter,  and clothing  and more to anyone in need. The funds will be used to purchase the ingredients.

Don Valley Eco Project

Organization : TERC

TERC has been planting indigenous plant material in the Don Valley since 1981. The actual planting takes place in April and is done by local elementary school students. The funds will go towards purchasing the various plants.

Reading Circle

Organization : Woodgreen Community Services

Members of TERC have run this program with friends for a number of years. The funds will purchase books and small gifts to present to the children throughout the year .

Spring Repairs to Outdoor Park

Organization : Fontbonne Place

In 2000, Fontbonne ministries established a facility on Queen Street and Booth Avenue. The facility nurtures the needs of the community, especially the homeless, alienated, economically poor and women at risk. At the time, TERC contributed to a garden/parkette at the front of the building and each year TERC provides a spring cleanup. The funds cover the costs to repair/repaint the benches and other areas of the property.

Youth Leadership

Organization : Rotary District 7070

The Rotary District 707 has always been a supporter to youth leadership. The program “Leadership Begins with Me” provides  n opportunity for young people aged 19-23 to get to know themselves better and to cultivate the respect and trust for others. Their enthusiasm at the end of the program is brought back to the community from where the participants are sponsored.  The funds will go to sponsoring participants from our community.

Youth Scholarships

Organization : TERC

Each year TERC invests in post secondary education for young people in our community. The scholarships are competitive and open to all graduating Grade 12 students who are proceeding to post secondary education. The funding will go towards these awards.
