Homes First Foundation
Nov. 03, 2016
There are over 5,000 people in Toronto without a safe stable place to live. Hundreds live “rough” – in ravines, stairwells or on the street. Hundreds more suffer with mental illness and addictions. This forgotten slice of our population, people who have been street-involved for several years and who have nowhere else to go, is where Homes First comes in. They were the first and remain one of the largest providers of homes for people with the fewest options in Toronto. Shirlene Courtis is the executive director of the Homes First Foundation. |

Human Rights in a Corporate World
Dec. 15, 2016
Jeff will be presenting a case that could set a precedence for human rights.
Between 2007 and 2009 a Canadian resource company employed violent thugs to murder and rape indigenous civilians in Guatemala in an effort to remove them from lands appropriated for mining. This practice is carried on in many developing countries by Canadian companies as well as other national and multinational organizations, who hide behind the corruption inherent in the developing world.
